REGULAR MEETING <br />APRIL 4, 1994 <br />Indiana, submitted to the Board an Application For Use Of And <br />Blocking Of Access To Public Right -of -Way For A Party Or <br />Similar Event, requesting that Kalorama Street, from North <br />St. Louis Boulevard to Hill Street, be closed from 10:00 a.m. <br />to 8:00 p.m. for a neighborhood gathering and picnic. <br />FOR DESIGNATED HANDICAPPED PARKING SPACE AT 618 SOUTH GRANT <br />Mr. James Smuda, 1422 North Illinois, on behalf of his <br />mother, Mrs. Agnes Bernaciak, requested that the parking <br />space in front of her residence at 618 South Grant Street, be <br />designated as a handicapped parking space. <br />- OF CHIARA HOME, INC. FOR TWO (2) DESIGNATED HANDICAPPED <br />PARKING SPACES AT 1105 W. JEFFERSON BOULEVARD <br />Sister Sharon E. Maurer, President, Chiara Home, Inc., 1105 <br />West Jefferson Boulevard, South Bend, Indiana, requested two <br />(2) handicapped parking spaces in front of the Chiara Home at <br />1105 West Jefferson Boulevard. <br />Sister Maurer stated that Chiara Home is an organization that <br />provides short-term stays, called Respite care, for people <br />who have a developmental disability. Parking is often a <br />problem for people needing to drop off their child or adult <br />who needs respite due to the spaces in front of the home <br />often being used by neighbors. <br />REQUEST FOR DESIGNATED HANDICAPPED PARKING SPACE AT 513 E. ECKMAN <br />- TABLED <br />Mr. Leszczynski advised that on March 7, 1994, the Board received <br />a request for.a designated handicapped parking space at 513 East <br />Eckman. <br />At this time the Board is in receipt of a recommendation from Mrs. <br />Marcia Qualls, Traffic Investigator, Bureau of Traffic and <br />Lighting, recommending that the request be denied as the residence <br />has a driveway that can be utilized. <br />Mr. Caldwell inquired if the driveway at 513 East Eckman was wide <br />enough to accommodate the use of a wheelchair. As the Bureau of <br />Traffic and Lighting did not provide this information in their <br />recommendation for denial, Mr. Caldwell made a motion that this <br />request be tabled until further information is received from the <br />Bureau of Traffic and Lighting. Mrs. Manier seconded the motion <br />which carried. <br />APPROVE REQUEST OF GRAND ENCAMPMENT OF INDIANA TO CONDUCT <br />MOTORCADE TO CITY CEMETERY - <br />MAY 15, 1994 <br />It was noted that the Board is in receipt of favorable <br />recommendations from various City departments and bureaus who have <br />reviewed the request of Grand Encampment of Indiana to conduct <br />their annual motorcade to the City Cemetery on May 15, 1994. <br />Therefore, Mr. Leszczynski made a motion that this request be <br />approved. Mrs. Manier seconded the motion which carried. <br />DENY PETITION FOR RESTRICTED RESIDENTIAL PARKING ZONE - 703-711 <br />LELAND <br />Mr. Carl P. Littrell, Director, Division of Engineering, submitted <br />to the Board a parking study which was conducted by the Bureau of <br />Traffic and Lighting in response to the Petition for Restricted <br />Residential Parking which Ms. Melissa Rice, 703 Leland Avenue, <br />South Bend, Indiana, submitted to the Board on March 14, 1994. <br />1 <br />1 <br />
