Chlebowski, Director,
Division of Equipment Services, recommended that the Board award
the bid received on February 28, 1994, from Trucks & Parts of
Tampa, 1015 South 50th Street, Tampa, Florida, in the amount of
$29,300.00 for all three (3) trasher packers offered for sale by
the City. Mr. Caldwell made a motion that the recommendation be
accepted and the bid be awarded. Mrs. Manier seconded the motion
which carried.
AWARD BID - DIVISION A/REJECT BID AND APPROVE REQUEST TO
READVERTISE FOR THE RECEIPT OF BIDS - DIVISION B
- CHIPPEWA AVENUE STORM WATER CONTROL SYSTEM PROJECT
In a Memorandum to the Board, Mr. Carl P. Littrell, Director,
Division of Engineering, advised that on February 21, 1994, the
Board opened ten (10) bids for the above referred to project. The
project is divided into two (2) divisions.
Division "A" is for work along Chippewa Avenue from Miami Street
to its western terminus at Erskine Golf Course plus a new
retention basin at the roadway terminus. All ten (10) bidders
submitted prices for this work. Division "B" is for a storm water
control channel through Erskine Golf Course. Only seven (7) of
the bidders submitted prices for this work.
Mr. Littrell noted that he has reviewed the bids and found the
amounts correct as read at the Board meeting and responsive to the
specifications.
Therefore, Mr. Littrell recommended the award of the bid for
Division "A" to the low bidder, Ritschard Brothers, Inc.,
1204 West Sample Street, South Bend, Indiana, in the amount of
$672,038.12. The award should be made conditional upon approval
of an appropriation for this work which is now on file with the
Common Council.
Additionally, Mr. Littrell recommended that the bids for Division
"B" be rejected. Comments by contractors during the bidding led
the City to review the specifications for the work. This, along
with discussions with the Park Department, led the City to believe
that a change in the specifications for the work in Erskine Golf
Course would be appropriate for the project and would lead to
possible savings in both the expense of the project and its time
to completion.
Mr. Littrell noted that the City plans to re -bid Division "B" as
soon as the changes to the specifications can be made and he asks
for the Board's approval to readvertise for bids as soon as those
changes are made.
Therefore, Mr. Caldwell made a motion that Division A be awarded
to Ritschard Brothers, Inc., in the amount of $672,038.12, subject
to appropriation, that bids received for Division B be rejected
and the request to readvertise for the receipt of bids for
Division B as soon as the specifications are revised be approved.
Mrs. Manier seconded the motion which carried.
REQUESTS REFERRED:
Upon a motion made by Mr. Caldwell, seconded by Mrs. Manier and
carried, the following requests were referred to the appropriate
City departments and bureaus for review and recommendation:
FOR DESIGNATED HANDICAPPED PARKING SPACE AT 513 E.
