<br />APPROVAL OF RECOMMENDATION - LICENSE APPLICATION - RUBBISH AND
<br />GARBAGE REMOVAL SERVICE - RENEWAL
<br />Mr. Leszczynski stated that favorable recommendations have been received by the Building
<br />Commissioner, Code Enforcement, Police Department and the City Attorney's office, in reference
<br />to a request for a License Application for Rubbish and Garbage Removal Service Renewal, as
<br />submitted by Mr. Steve Herron, 517 East Broadway, South Bend, Indiana. Mr. Leszczynski stated
<br />that the Bureau of Sanitation has inspected the vehicles to be used for this service, and has found
<br />them to be in compliance. Therefore, upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski , seconded by Mrs.
<br />Manier and carried, the License Application was approved, and forwarded to the Deputy Controller's
<br />office for issuance of a license.
<br />RECOMMENDATION FOR INSTALLATION OF FOUR-WAY STOP - LEER AND DUBAIL
<br />STREETS - DENIED
<br />Mr. Leszczynski stated that an unfavorable recommendation has been received by the Division of
<br />Engineering, in reference to the request for the above referred to four-way stop. Chief Ronald G.
<br />Marciniak, requested that a four-way sign be installed at Dubail and Leer streets, on behalf of the
<br />Unifed Neighbors Investing Time and Energy Neighborhood Association. Their concern centered
<br />around cars speeding through the area, the number of accidents on Leer Street and the fact that a day
<br />care center and church are located in the area. Mr. Leszczynski stated that the traffic flow does does
<br />not meet the criteria to warrant a four-way stop, and in addition, only three (3) accidents have
<br />occurred at the intersection in the past six (6) years. Therefore, upon a motion made by Mrs. Manier,
<br />seconded by Mr. Leszczynski and carried, the request was denied.
<br />REQUESTS REFERRED
<br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mrs. Manier and carried, the following
<br />requests were referred to the appropriate Departments and Bureaus for recommendation:
<br />- TO CLOSE STREETS/ALLEYS - GUS MACKER 3-ON-3 BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT
<br />In a letter to the Board, Ms. Lori Jacob, American Red Cross, 3220 East Jefferson Boulevard, South
<br />Bend, Indiana, requested permission to close several streets in order to stage this year's events, on
<br />Saturday, September 9, 1995, and Sunday, September 10, 1995, on the designated streets as
<br />submitted.
<br />- TO CLOSE STREETS - 4-H FAIR
<br />In a letter to the Board, Mr. Frank Ronchetti, President, 4-H Fairboard, 5117 South Ironwood Road,
<br />South Bend, Indiana, requested permission to close several streets and make several traffic pattern
<br />changes, in conjunction with the 4-H Fair, on Monday, July 31, 1995, through Saturday, August 5,
<br />1995, from 5:00 a.m. until 7:30 p.m., on the designated streets as submitted.
<br />- TO ENCROACH ONTO PUBLIC RIGHT-OF-WAY
<br />In a letter to the Board, Mr. Derek Schultz, Distribution Manager, Zart Publications, Inc., 7301 East
<br />90th Street, Indianapolis, Indiana, requested permission to display their guidebooks in outdoor boxes
<br />at the northwest corner of Wayne and Michigan Streets; northeast corner of Wayne and Michigan
<br />Streets; southeast corner of Wayne and Michigan Streets; southwest corner of Michigan and
<br />Washington Streets, and Main Street, between Wayne and Western Avenue, in front of the St. Joseph
<br />County Public Library.
<br />- TO CONDUCT BLOCK PARTY
<br />In a letter to the Board, Ms. Marie Bergman, 2410 Union Avenue, South Bend, Indiana, requested
<br />permission to conduct a block party in the 2300 through 2400 block of Union, on Sunday, August
<br />20, 1995, from 12:00 noon until 8:00 p.m.
<br />AWARD BID - PORTABLE AIR COMPRESSOR
<br />Mr. Matthew Chlebowski, Director, Division of Equipment Services, advised the Board that on April
<br />10, 1995, bids were received and opened for the above referred to equipment. After reviewing those
<br />bids, Mr. Chlebowski recommends that the Board award the contract to Industrial Construction
<br />Equipment Company, 25166 West State Road 2, South Bend, Indiana, in the amount of $9,400.00.
<br />Therefore, Mrs. Manier made a motion that the recommendation be accepted and the bid be awarded
<br />as outlined above. Mr. Leszczynski seconded the motion which carried.
