0" <br />REGULAR MEETING DULY 15. 1996 <br />APPROVAL OF REQUEST TO REJECT BIDS - PACKAGE NO 3 - SELECTED DEMOLITION <br />- ROBERTSON'S BUILDING - PROJECT NO.96-48 <br />In a memorandum to the Board, Mr. Carl P. Littrell, Director, Division of Engineering, requested <br />permission to rejects the bids for the above referred to project, which were received on July 1, 1996. <br />Mr. Littrell stated that because of the expense of the other contract awards on this project, no funds <br />are available to carry out this work. Therefore, upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded <br />by Mr. Caldwell and carried, the request to reject bids was approved. <br />APPROVAL OF REQUEST TO ADVERTISE FOR THE RECEIPT OF BIDS - CAR WASHES <br />FOR POLICE DEPARTMENT VEHICLES <br />In a memorandum to the Board, Police Chief Darrell G. Gunn, requested permission to advertise for <br />the receipt of bids for the above referred to service. Chief Gunn stated that this project will provide <br />car washes for Police Department vehicles. Funding is budgeted from the General Fund monies in <br />the Police Department. Therefore, upon a motion made by Mr. Caldwell, seconded by Mr. <br />Leszczynski and carried, the request to advertise for the receipt of bids was approved. <br />APPROVAL OF RECOMMENDATION - TO CONDUCT STUDEBAKER DRIVER'S CLUB <br />MEET <br />Mr. Leszczynski stated that favorable recommendations have been received by the Division of <br />Engineering, Park Department, Police Department and the City Attorney's office, in reference to a <br />request as submitted by Ms. Pat Patterson, Studebaker Driver's Club Meet, Post Office Box 1932, <br />South Bend, Indiana to conduct the above referred to Driver's Club Meet, on Sunday, July 21, 1996, <br />from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., in the parking lot at Coveleski Stadium. Therefore, upon a motion <br />made by Mr. Caldwell, seconded by Mr. Leszczynski and carried, the recommendation was <br />approved, subject to the approval of Coveleski Stadium. <br />APPROVAL OF RECOMMENDATION - USE OF CITY -OWNED PROPERTY - COMMUNITY <br />GARDEN PROJECT <br />Mr. Leszczynski stated that favorable recommendations have been received by the Division of <br />Engineering, Fire Department, Area Plan Commission, Code Enforcement, Police Department, <br />Community and Economic Development and the City Attorney's office, in reference to a request as <br />submitted by Ms. Alesha Seroczynski, Center for the Homeless, 813 South Michigan Street, South <br />Bend, Indiana, for the use of City -owned property at 142 and 148 Birdsell Street, for the Garden of <br />Life gardening project for children ages eight (8) to fourteen (14) who reside at the Center for the <br />Homeless. Therefore, upon a motion made by Mr. Caldwell, seconded by Mr. Leszczynski and <br />carried, the recommendation was approved. <br />APPROVAL OF RECOMMENDATION - TO CONDUCT SOUTHEAST PARTNERSHIP <br />CENTER NEIGHBORHOOD FESTIVAL <br />Mr. Leszczynski stated that favorable recommendations have been received by the Division of <br />Engineering, Police Department and the City Attorney's office, in reference to a request as submitted <br />by Ms. Pat Barham, Southeast Quality of Life, 626 East Broadway, South Bend, Indiana to conduct <br />the above referred to neighborhood festival, on Saturday, August 3, 1996, from 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 <br />p.m., on High Street, from Dubail to Calvert. Therefore, upon a motion made by Mr. Caldwell, <br />seconded by Mr. Leszczynski and carried, the recommendation was approved. <br />APPROVAL OF RECOMMENDATION - TO CLOSE STREET - BABE RUTH BASEBALL <br />TOURNAMENT <br />Mr. Leszczynski stated that favorable recommendations have been received by the Division of <br />Engineering, Police Department and the City Attorney's office, in reference to a request as submitted <br />by Mr. Jim Szekendi, 21760 Sandybrook Drive, South Bend, Indiana to close Keller Street from <br />Eclipse east to Meade Street, on Friday, July 19, 1996, from 3:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.; and Saturday <br />and Sunday, July 20 and July 21, 1996, from 8:00 a.m. until 7:30 p.m., in conjunction with the <br />Northern State Babe Ruth Baseball Tournament. Therefore, upon a motion made by Mr. Caldwell, <br />seconded by Mr. Leszczynski and carried, the recommendation was approved. <br />
