REGULAR MEETING AUGUST 21, 2000 Roemer, seconded by Mr. Gilot and carried, the recommendation was approved. APPROVAL OF RECOMMENDATION - TO CLOSE STREET - ALLEN FROM VANBUREN TO CALIFORNIA - BLOCK PARTY Mr. Gilot stated that favorable recommendations have been received by the Division of Engineering, Police Department and the City Attorney's office, in reference to a request as submitted by Mr. James Branch, 912 North Allen, South Bend, Indiana, to conduct the above referred to block party on August 26, 2000, from 12:00 p.m. until 11:00 p.m. Upon a motion made by Ms. Roemer, seconded by Mr. Gilot and carried, the recommendation was approved. APPROVAL OF RECOMMENDATION - TO CLOSE STREET - WAYNE FROM SCOTT TO THE AT&T DRIVEWAY - SCOTTISH HIGHLANDS ATHLETIC DEMONSTRATION Mr. Gilot stated that favorable recommendations have been received by the Division of Engineering, Police Department and the City Attorney's office, in reference to a request as submitted by Mr. Terry Meehan, 309 South Taylor, South Bend, Indiana, to conduct the above referred to event on August 27, 2000, from 9:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Upon a motion made by Ms. Roemer, seconded by Mr. Gilot and carried, the recommendation was approved. APPROVAL OF RECOMMENDATION - TO CLOSE STREET - HUMBOLT FROM OLIVE TO FREMONT - BLOCK PARTY Mr. Gilot stated that favorable recommendations have been received by the Division of Engineering, Police Department and the City Attorney's office, in reference to a request as submitted by Ms. Carla Morrison, 1145 North Olive, South Bend, Indiana, to conduct the above referred to block party on August 26, 2000, from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Upon a motion made by Ms. Roemer, seconded by Mr. Gilot and carried, the recommendation was approved. APPROVAL OF RECOMMENDATION - TO CONDUCT PARADE/CLOSE STREETS - NORTHERN INDIANA CENTER FOR HISTORY - ABRAHAM LINCOLN FESTIVAL Mr. Gilot stated that favorable recommendations have been received by the Division of Engineering, Park Department, Police Department and the City Attorney's office, in reference to a request as submitted by Ms. Juliana Newbill, Northern Indiana Center for History, 808 West Washington, South Bend, Indiana to conduct the above referred to parade, on September 23, 2000 from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., on the designated route as submitted. In addition, the Center for History requested the closing of Lafayette between Washington and Jefferson, as well as Washington from Lafayette to Laurel. Upon a motion made by Ms. Roemer, seconded by Mr. Gilot and carried, the recommendation was approved, subj ect to the Center for History communicating with restaurants and businesses in the immediate area of the street closing on the day of their event. APPROVAL OF RECOMMENDATION - TO CONDUCT CHARITABLE SOLICITATION - MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY ASSOCIATION Mr. Gilot stated that favorable recommendations have been received by the Division of Engineering, Police Department and the City Attorney's office, in reference to a request as submitted by Ms. Stephanie Santos, Muscular Dystrophy Association, 314 Catalpa, Mishawaka, Indianato conduct the above referred to charitable solicitation, on August 27, 2000, from 12:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m., at Miami and Ironwood; Lincolnway and Twyckenham; and Lombardi and Western Upon a motion made by Mr. Gilot, seconded by Ms. Roemer and carried, the recommendation was approved, subject to the participants following the City of South Bend's safety procedures, and the wearing of safety vests/and or reflective clothing during the solicitation. APPROVE TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES Upon a motion made by Ms, Roemer, seconded by Mr. Gilot and carried, the following traffic control devices were approved: New Installation - Traffic Ireland and Scottsdale Mall Five section left turn heads Signals - Left Turn Heads Drive will be installed to improve traffic safety 1 LJ
