004 <br />1 <br />REGULAR MEETING FEBRUARY 26, 2001 <br />FILING OF WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT SERVICES - WORKFORCE DIVERSITY <br />INITIATIVE REPORT <br />Ms. Elizabeth Leonard, Community& Economic Development, submitted a report for j ob placements <br />made in the Year 2000 under the Workforce Development Services program. There being no further <br />discussion, upon a motion made by Mr. Gilot, seconded by Mr. Inks and carried, the report was filed. <br />APPROVAL OF RECOMMENDATION TO ENCROACH ONTO PUBLIC RIGHT-OF-WAY - <br />INSTALLATION OF SIGNS - RETAIL SPACES AT 131 129 127 123 121 AND 117 SOUTH <br />MICHIGAN STREET <br />Mr. Gilot advised that the Board is in receipt of favorable recommendations from the Division of <br />Engineering, Police Department, Building Commissioner and the Redevelopment Design Review <br />Committee for the installation of signs at the above referred to locations. Mr. Michael Giulioni, <br />Community and Economic Development, stated that these "hanging canopy signs" will be hung <br />perpendicular to the building face from the existing canopies which exist on the front of the shops. <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Inks, seconded by Ms. Roemer and carried, the recommendation was <br />approved. <br />APPROVAL OF RECOMMENDATION - TO CLOSE STREETS/CHANGE PARKING <br />RESTRICTIONS - "WORLD'S LARGEST GARAGE SALE" <br />Mr. Gilot stated that favorable recommendations have been received by the Division of Engineering, <br />Police Department and the City Attorney's office, in reference to a request as submitted by Ms. Sue <br />Ann Bullock, Park Department, to close various streets and change parking restrictions near the <br />Wayne Street parking garage for an event to be held on June 1 and 2, 2001. Upon a motion made <br />by Ms. Roemer, seconded by Mr. Inks and carried, the recommendation was approved. <br />APPROVE LICENSE APPLICATION - OPEN AIR STAND <br />Mr. Gilot advised that the following license application has been received: <br />NAME: South Bend Shrine Club, Inc. <br />BY: John Wolf <br />ADDRESS: 1218 East South <br />STAND TO LOCATED AT: 1218 East South (owned by South Bend Shrine Club, Inc.) <br />DATES: April 1 through May 1, 2001 <br />FOR THE PURPOSE OF: Sale of Vidalia Onions <br />Mr. Gilot further advised that favorable recommendations have been received from the Police <br />Department, Department of Code Enforcement, and the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting for the above <br />application. Additionally provided with the application was a letter of permission from the property <br />owner. Upon a motion made by Mr. Inks, seconded by Ms. Roemer and carried, the above license <br />application was approved and referred to the Deputy Controller's Office for issuance. <br />APPROVE LICENSE APPLICATIONS - GARBAGE AND RUBBISH SERVICE <br />Mr. Gilot stated that the following Garbage and Rubbish Service applications have been received: <br />Mary Dodd Rubbish Removal <br />118 South Illinois <br />South Bend, Indiana <br />BFI Waste Systems of North America <br />57820 Charlotte Avenue <br />Elkhart, Indiana <br />K&D Hauling and Snow Plowing <br />812 Division <br />Mishawaka, Indiana <br />Mr. Gilot further advised that favorable recommendations have been received by the Department of <br />Code Enforcement concerning these applications. Further, the Bureau of Sanitation has inspected <br />the vehicle(s) to be used in conjunction with these businesses, and has found them to be satisfactory. <br />Upon a motion made by Ms. Roemer, seconded by Mr. Inks and carried, the above license <br />applications were approved and referred to the Deputy Controller's Office for issuance of a license. <br />
