Luecke, Mayor of South Bend Councilmember LaFountain, Chairperson, Personnel and Finance Committee reported that this committee held a Public Hearing on this bill this afternoon and voted to send it to the full Council with a favorable recommendation. Council President Dieter made the formal presentation for this bill. He noted that the Council had the opportunity to discuss ideas with regard to strategy during their Executive Session. He noted that he believes that all ideas and concerns were properly addressed. Councilmember White advised that she as Chairperson of the Health & Public Safety Committee would like to see parameters defined and continued discussion on the on going negotiations between the Police Departments and Fire Departments. She stated that there needs to be clear direction this year to the City’s Agent and to those who will be selected by the Council President to be a part of an advisory negotiating team. She stated that the Council and Administration are very much aware that monies are limited due to HEA 1001. A Public Hearing was held on the Resolution at this time. There being no one present wishing to speak to the Council either in favor of or in opposition to this Resolution, Councilmember Varner made a motion to adopt this Resolution. Councilmember LaFountain seconded the motion which carried and the Resolution was adopted by a roll call vote of eight (8) ayes.
