Davis, Chairperson <br />Utilities Committee <br />I am submitting the following Annual Report of the activities of the Common Council's Utilities <br />Committee which is a requirement of § 2-10 (i) of the South Bend Municipal Code. I apologize <br />for the delay in the filing of this report. <br />Duties: The Utilities Committee is charged with "overseeing the various activities of all <br />enterprise entities including but not limited to the Bureau of Waterworks, Bureau of Sewers and <br />all related entities" pursuant to § 2-10 (i) (10) of the South Bend Municipal Code. <br />Members: There were four (4) Council Members on this Committee, namely: Council <br />Member At Large Al "Buddy" Kiirsits who was the Vice-Chairperson; 4~' District Council <br />Member Ann Puzzello and 3ra District Council Member Thomas LaFountain who served as <br />members and myself who served as Chairperson. Tim Hudak served as a citizen member. <br />Meetings:: There were seven (7) committee meetings held to last year, with one of <br />those being a joint meeting with the Public Works and Property Vacation Committee. <br />Activities: ~ The Utilities Committee was asked to review four (4) primary matters last <br />year, namely: <br />• Proposal to increase the rates for solid waste pick-up due to increased costs for labor, <br />gasoline and tipping fees <br />• Received an update on the Notre Dame Sewer Service Agreement <br />• Proposal of the South Bend Water Works to opt out of the Indiana Utility Regulatory <br />Commission (IURC) <br />• Received an overview of the City's Municipal Utilities where it was noted that: <br />1. Water demand is down 10% from 2007 demand <br />2. Water quality is excellent <br />
