Indiana Bicentennial Torch Relay <br /> At A Glance <br /> As of 11/19/2014 <br /> WHAT: 2,300+mile trek across the state of Indiana that will begin in Corydon,the state's <br /> first capital,and culminate in Indianapolis on the Indiana Statehouse grounds. <br /> WHY: The Indiana Bicentennial Torch Relay will be one of the signature events of the <br /> bicentennial celebration.This initiative was designed to promote unity across the <br /> state by connecting people,communities and regions. <br /> KEY DATES: • December 11,2014—Official announcement of Torch Relay <br /> • September 9, 2016—Torch Relay opening ceremony in Corydon <br /> • October 15,2016.—Torch Relay culminates on Statehouse grounds <br /> BICENTENNIAL TORCH <br /> RELAY FACTS: • Travels through all 92 Indiana counties <br /> • Torch will travel by relay for 5 weeks/32 days—rest on Mondays <br /> • Carried by approximately 1,600 torchbearers <br /> • Will travel by runner,bicycle,train,boat(what else?) <br /> • Travels an average of 74 miles per day <br /> • Travels in a caravan of 6-8 vehicles,including public safety,advance team, <br /> torchbearer carriers and equipment <br /> Torch will be used to light an everlasting light at plaza on the Statehouse grounds <br /> COMMUNITY <br /> CELEBRATIONS: The Indiana Bicentennial Torch Relay will stop at least once a day while traveling <br /> to be part of a community celebration.
