But, I am also writing to you as a Mother
who hopes something will be done this time before it is too late. It took a childs life to put a policewoman on a
very dangerous intersection and we are hoping to avoid just such an incident at the corner of Colfax and Ironwood
Dr.
We were promised a 99licewoman, by the police department, for this very dangerous intersection the first of the year
but because of the death of the child at St. Joseph School we were not allowed to have the necessary protection
because the budget would not allow another woman.
An emergency appropriation for additional policewomen now - -- before its too late again - - -- -would be the propor step
for the Council to take at this time.
Why not think of our children first? After all - -- -they are the future voters of this community. Lets protect them
now, so they may grow up to vote. This is not money wasted. Its money well spent. Lets lock the barn before the
horse gets out.
Very truly yours,
Mrs. M. G. Levy
1507 E. Colfax Ave.
South Bend, Ind.
Councilman Carr made a motion that the Communication be accepted and placed on file. Councilman Erler seconded the
motion. Motion carried.
REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE
To the Common Council of the City of South Bend:
