Penalties for dangerous dog running at large <br />NAIA has a no-tolerance policy towards dangerous dogs running <br />at large. Therefore, the punishment will be severe, absent mitig <br />circumstances. <br />Dangerous dogs that run at large and <br />1) <br />repeat the behavior that earned the designation will <br />be impounded and euthanized. <br />Dangerous dogs that run at large with- <br />2) <br />out repeating that behavior may be returned to <br />their owners at the discretion of the animal control <br />agency after reviewing the case and inspection of <br />the confinement facility. <br />Owners who fail to confine their dangerous dogs out of <br />3) <br />carelessness or neglect face high fines and possible jail time. <br />penalties must be enforceable. <br />Dog fighting and other crimes <br />Raising and training dogs for fighting and participating in dog <br />fighting are serious crimes that deserve tough penalties, includ <br />time. <br />Those who use dogs to illegally threaten others or to guard crim <br />nal activities should also face serious consequences, including jail time. <br />[ 20 ] <br />© National Animal Interest Alliance, March 2005 <br /> <br />
