MARCH 13,_1961
the Swank Dry Cleaners Inc., and Leonard Opperman, an officer of Sunshine Cleaners. They have submitted to me
information disseminated by their national organization setting out a very serious health and safety problem to the
community in reference to said coin - operated drycleaning machines.
From their discussion, as well as the examination of the materials submitted, it would be my thinking this Council
should make a study in reference to the operation of businesses containing coin - operated drycleaning machines. I'
would respectfully call your attention to the fact that it is a matter of controlling the operation rather than
prohibition. It would be necessary, from my observation, for an attendant to be present in each building where a
coin - operated drycleaning machine is placed.
I am making a study of this matter as well as conditions in other parts of the United States and I will, subject to
your approval, submit to you a proposed ordinance for the introduction of control of this type of operation.
I am ready and willing to meet with you at any time to clarify the problems involved herein.
IJS /nf
Copies to: Mayor Bruggner
Walter G.
