RFGIJT.AR MFFTING APRIL 10, 1978
REGULAR MEETING RECONVENED (CONTINUED
WHEREAS, the proposed increase would mean an additional $439,886.10 of our tax dollars
spent just on electricity; and
WHEREAS, Indiana law requires the Public Service Commission to conduct full, fair, and
impartial hearings to enable all of the facts and evidence to be introduced; and
WHEREAS, due to the overwhelming amount of public interest by the citizens of the City
of South Bend, a field hearing held in our city by the Public Service Commission on the
proposed rate increase is both necessary, reasonable and essential.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana,
that:
SECTION I. The Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, on behalf of all of its
citizens officially petitions the Indiana Public Service Commission to schedule a field hearing
in the City of South Bend so that all consumers in this area may have the opportunity to offer
facts and evidence on the 33.7 percent rate increase proposed by the Indiana and Michigan Electri,
Company.
SECTION II. The Common Council further finds that the proposed rate increase would have
a detrimental effect on the economic welfare of its citizens as well as the City itself.
SECTION III. The Council believes that in order to insure that full, fair and impartial
public hearings are held on this proposal, that a field hearing in the City of South Bend is not
only necessary but indeed essential, due to the drastic effect the increase would have on our
own policy of sound fiscal management.
SECTION IV. This Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its adoption
by the Common Council and approval by the Mayor.
/s /Joseph T. Serge
JOSEPH T.
