REGULAR MEETING AUGUST 10, 1981 <br />WHEREAS, the Mayor is the chief executive officer of the City, and is the appli- <br />cant for an Economic Development Grant through the Indiana State Department of Com- <br />merce. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, <br />INDIANA: <br />SECTION I: Hereby establishes the authority of the Mayor of the City of South <br />Bend to submit an application for funds in the amount of Eighty -seven Thousand Seven <br />Hundred Nine Dollars ($87,709.00) to the State Department of Commerce. <br />SECTION II: Hereby designates the Department of Economic Development <br />and Redevelopment as the Administrative Agent for the program. <br />SECTION III.: This resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after <br />its adoption by the Common Council and approval by the Mayor. <br />/s/ Lewis A. McGann <br />Member of the Common Council <br />A publilc hearing was held on the resolution at this time. Patrick McMahon, Director <br />of Redevelopment, indicated that last year the City was successful in their applica- <br />tion for this grant in the amount of $42,500. He indicated this money was utilized <br />to fund the Job Targeting Program and industrial development activities, primarily in <br />the area of the Studebaker Corridor. He indicated that if the City receives this <br />grant, the money will be utilized in the areas of activity funded last year, with the <br />additional funds to be expended toward the,Countywide Economic Develpment Study to be <br />performed by Battelle Research Laboratories. Council Member Szymkowiak made a motion <br />to adopt this resolution, seconded by Council Member Taylor. The resolution was <br />adopted by a roll call vote of nine ayes. <br />Council Member Taylor made a motion to have public hearing on a resolution declaring <br />5105 Ironwood an historically significant building, seconded by Council Member Dom- <br />browski. the motion carried. <br />RESOLUTION NO. 903 -81 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE SOUTH BEND COMMON COUNCIL DESIGNATING <br />AND ESTABLISHING AN HISTORICALLY SIGNIFICANT BUILDING. (5105 <br />IRONWOOD.) <br />WHEREAS, the Historic Preservation Commission of South Bend and St. Joseph County <br />did on April 20, 1981, at its regular Commission meeting, recommended that the former <br />schoolhouse located at what is commonly called 5105 Ironwood Road, South Bend, Indiana, <br />be declared as an historically significant building by resolution of the South Bend <br />Common Council. <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SOUTH BEND COMMON COUNCIL, INDIANA: <br />That this structure located at 5105 Ironwood Road be declared an historically <br />significant building. <br />This Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its adoption by <br />the Common Council and approved by the Mayor. <br />/s/ Lewis A. John Oxian, Vice President <br />of the Historic Preservation Commission, indicated that the Commission has been reco- <br />gnizing all former school houses in the County. He indicated that certificates have <br />been given to these people. He indicated these buildings do not qualify as historic <br />landmarks. He said this building was constructed in 1890, and there is very little <br />history on the building. Council Member Serge made -a motion to adopt this resolu- <br />tion, seconded by Council Member Beck. The resolution was adopted by a roll call vote <br />of nine ayes. <br />BILLS, FIRST READING <br />BILL NO. 75 -81 A BILL AMENDING CHAPTER 20, ARTICLE 4, OF THE SOUTH BEND <br />MUNICIPAL CODE, ENTITLED "BICYCLES ". <br />This bill had first reading. Council Member Crone made a motion to set this bill for <br />public hearing and second reading September 14, 1981, and refer it to the Residential <br />Neighborhood Committee, seconded by Council Member Zielinski. The motion carried. <br />
