Staff recommends that the columns be thinner than shown to
better complement the detailing of the house and that they be of
fiberglass or wood over a vinyl composite material. Staff also
recommends that the materials of the new porch and the side -door
overhang be sympathetic to historic construction. Regarding the light
posts, Staff believes that a singular globe or two globes would be more
appropriate for the scale of the home and this residential area than
multiple globes. Based on the information provided prior to this public
hearing, Staff makes a FAVORABLE recommendation for items
presented here, given that decisions on materials and finer details be
remanded to Staff.
Commissioner Andrews rioted that Commissioner Downs-Krostenko has
recused herself.
The applicant was represented by:
Amanda Shutts., 705 Leland Avenue, South Bend, IN, appeared in
person to represent the applicant.
The public was represented by:
There was no one from the public to speak in regard to this application.
After due consideration the following action was taken:
Upon a motion by Michael Skaggs, and seconded by Kathryn Hough, and
UNANIMOUSLY carried by vote, the Historic Preservation Commission
APPROVES Certificate of Appropriateness Application #2025-0404b.
Roll was called.
Commissioner Skaggs: AYE
Commissioner Hough: AYE
Commissioner DeKever: AYE
Commissioner Jones: AYE
Page 2 April 21, 2025
