Illustrated Hanbook for Historic Commercial Buildings
30
Exterior walls & floors
These drawing shows
the typical storefront
wall construction of
the Monarch Printing
Building. It illustrates how
the front wall facing the
street was built. It includes
multiple layers: a concrete
foundation below ground,
a metal hollow column
supporting the brick
masonry of the upper floor
and the balustrade on the
parapet. It also shows how
the terracotta ornaments
are inserted into the brick
wall.
Storefront Wall
Section
Concrete
foundation
Metal
column
Storefront
windows
Terracotta
ornaments
Brick wall
Upper window
Balustrade
