Why is it historic? <br />23 <br />This physical evidence will <br />guide you on what to look <br />for and where to focus. For <br />example, in this case, the <br />physical clues pointed to <br />the existence of an adjacent <br />building. By searching <br />newspaper archives for the <br />neighboring address, articles <br />from the South Bend Tribune <br />were found that recorded and <br />showed the appearance of the <br />missing structure. <br />Sometimes, as in this case, it <br />can also uncover past events <br />that affected the building, like <br />the 1973 fire in the neighboring <br />structure. <br />Information like this can even help guide the construction of new buildings <br />within the historic district that may be classified as “contributing,” by <br />referencing historic buildings that no longer exist. <br />Hypothetical façade showing how the neighboring building might have <br />looked.
