South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting —April 25, 2013
Investment Department with Mr. Inks. It didn't take Mr. Ford long to discover why Mr.
Inks had the two most comfortable chairs in the city, in his office, and this is due to people
coming quite frequently to seek council. This was not limited to those from the Department
of Community Investment, but from other departments in the building as well. Mr. Inks' two
hobbies outside of Redevelopment are fishing and fine carpentry; these two hobbies
illustrate the virtues of that Mr. Inks has: attention to detail, his integrity, a sense of craft,
and an extreme amount of patience. This has made him absolutely superb as a professional
and role model for us all.
Upon a motion by Mr. Varner, seconded by Mr. Downes and unanimously carried, the
Commission approved Resolution No. 3137 commending Donald E. Inks for extraordinary
services to the South Bend Redevelopment Commission.
Mr. Inks noted that he enjoyed the list of items on Resolution No. 3137 which included not
only large and small projects, but also projects that were very successful, moderately
successful, and not successful. This is the reality when doing economic development; one
may strike out once or twice. He also liked hearing of projects that he had a larger role in as
well as a much smaller role. When he reads through the projects listed on Resolution
No. 3137, he thinks of the primary people involved, such as Bill Schalliol and Dave Relos,
etc. Other people in the department primarily worked on these projects and he listened to
them and presented an occasional idea. This is very much a team work effort to get these
projects finished.
H.
