If single hung, <br />fixed sash may remain in-place if all friction / impact surface <br />paint can be removed satisfactorily. Remove all storm windows. <br />Secure window openings while work is being performed. All <br />areas not be stripped of paint shall be protected. <br />LBP shall be stripped from all window sashes, window troughs <br />and other friction/impact surfaces utilizing a caustic paint <br />stripper (or other EPA and Owner approved method). Paint <br />shall be removed in accordance with manufacturer's <br />recommendations and specifications. Collect residue and rinse <br />water in proper containers, characterize and properly dispose. <br />Neutralize and rinse surface in accordance with manufacturer's <br />directions. Following paint removal, document paint removal <br />photographically or obtain approval of work from Owner / Owner <br />Representative. Coat all friction surfaces with two coats of <br />boiled linseed oil following manufactures directions and top coat <br />with exterior oil-based paint. <br />All Jambs, exterior casings, lintels and other deteriorated LBP <br />window components shall be wet scraped and encapsulated <br />with an elastomeric encapsulant to create a continuous seal <br />over the surface in accordance with the manufacturer's <br />specifications. Encapsulant must be pre-approved by Owner. <br />Use the required number of coats and coverage rate to <br />guarantee a minimum 20-year manufacturer's warranty. <br />All damaged wood shall be repaired using an approved epoxy, <br />wood filler or other appropriate material. If beyond repair, wood <br />shall be replaced with in-kind replacement materials. Existing <br />hardware to be reused. If missing, replacement shall match <br />existing. Repair wood as necessary to ensure proper hardware <br />attached. If sash locks are not present, they shall be installed <br />for security and weatherization purposes. Maintain existing <br />structure and characteristics of existing window components. <br />Replace all broken glass and re-glaze. Repair damage, missing <br />or otherwise deteriorated window glazing. <br />Repair weights or otherwise opening mechansim. Install stool, <br />stops and parting bead and laminate trough/well with .027 <br />aluminum, white, coil stock. <br />Reinstall all window components, using existing materials as <br />much as feasible. Window shall properly operate at same <br />capacity as originally installed (i.e. single hung will operate <br />single hung, etc.) <br />Appropriate weatherstripping (bronze spring) shall be utilized to <br />ensure the window is airtight. <br />Structure is historic and preservation of existing windows is <br />required. All window work shall be completed in accordance <br />with the National Park Service's Historic Preservation Brief 9 - <br />Page 6 of 13 <br />1,000.00 20,000.00
