3. The Contractor shall preserve and protect all surrounding property, structures, tenants, visitors and <br />their property from damage caused by the Contractor's operations. <br />XVIII. ASPHALT MICROSURFACING <br />A. Prevailing Specifications: 2024, INDOT Standard Specifications Sections 411, 902 <br />B. Additions: <br />1. Asphalt micro -surface material shall meet the standard specifications of ASTM D8099/D8099M-17. <br />2, The Contractor shall be responsible for all surface preparation necessary to meet the performance <br />requirements for warranted micro -surfacing. All castings and detector housings shall be protected <br />prior to the application of material in accordance with I NDOT 404.07, except that raised pavement <br />markers shall be removed. There will be no direct payment for this work. <br />3. Cracks in the pavement in excess of 114 in. width shall be filled in accordance with INDOT 408 prior <br />to placement of warranted micro -surfacing. There will be no direct payment for this work. <br />4. Existing curb faces, approaches, stormwater inlets, grass, and other features subject to <br />coordination with the Engineer shall be protected from and kept clean of all asphalt micro -surface <br />material. <br />5. Squeegees, brushes, and truck -mounted applicators shall be permitted for this work. Only <br />application by hand squeegee or brush shall be used in the vicinity of sensitive features as identified <br />in XVIIIA to prevent contamination. <br />6. Asphalt micro -surface shall not be applied when ambient temperature is below 50°F nor when <br />ambient temperature is expected to drop below 50°F within 24 hours of application. <br />7. Asphalt micro -surface shall be applied in two coats. The application rate of each coat shall be <br />between 30 to 40 square feet per gallon. <br />B. The first coat of micro -surface shall be dry prior to application of the second coat. <br />9. Existing pavement markings, including but not limited to painted crosswalks and stop lines, where <br />paved over by asphalt micro -surface, shall be reapplied with traffic paint. There will be no direct <br />payment for this work. <br />10. All incidental work, including but not limited to surface preparation, inlet and casting protection, and <br />pavement markings, shall be included in the cost of the asphalt microsurfacing pay item: <br />ASPHALT MICROSURFACING..........................................................................SYD <br />XIX. INFRARED PAVEMENT PATCHING <br />A. Prevailing Specifications: None <br />B. Additions: <br />1. Equipment: <br />a. Pavement Restoration Vehicle (PRV): PRV shall be a truck mounted, self-contained <br />pavement maintenance heating system equipped with a fuel system and a heated chamber <br />capable of maintaining the fresh asphalt at a temperature of 300 degrees or higher. <br />b. The adjustable height infrared heating unit may be a truck mounted (preferred) or trailer <br />mounted to the PRV. The unit shall be equipped with a chamber or chambers capable of <br />heating the existing bituminous pavement to a workable condition without oxidation or <br />burning. There shall be no flame in direct contact with the existing bituminous surface. <br />c. Compaction shall be achieved with a self-propelled steel drum vibratory roller of sufficient <br />size to provide complete compaction to the full heated depth of the patched area (3000 psi <br />to a depth of 10 inches). <br />d. Contractor shall not place old, removed material into the container on the PRV holding new <br />bituminous material, or into any other container holding new bituminous material. <br />2. Materials: <br />a. New bituminous material for patching shall be HMA Surface PG 64-28, with up to 25% <br />recycled asphalt pavement (RAP), no recycled shingles (RS) materials and incorporating <br />only limestone aggregate, or equal as approved by the Engineer. <br />b. New material shall be added to all patched areas. <br />c.
