REGULAR MEETING APRIL 23, 2001 <br />There was no one present wishing to speak to the Council either in favor of or in opposition to these <br />bills. <br />Therefore, Councilmember Coleman made a motion for favorable recommendation to full Council <br />regarding Bill No. 34 -01. Councilmember White seconded the motion which carried by a voice <br />vote of nine (9) ayes. <br />Further, Councilmember White made a motion for favorable recommendation to full Council <br />concerning Bill No. 35 -01. Councilmember Varner seconded the motion which carried by a voice <br />vote of nine (9) ayes. <br />Finally, Councilmember King made a motion for favorable recommendation to full Council <br />concerning Bill No. 36 -01. Councilmember Coleman seconded the motion which carried by a <br />voice vote of nine (9) ayes. <br />BILL NO. 37 -01 PUBLIC HEARING ON A BILL APPROPRIATING <br />$50,000 FROM THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT <br />STATE GRANT FUND FOR THE PURPOSE OF <br />ASSISTING IN THE SUPPORT OF THE DIVISION OF <br />ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT'S AREA <br />REVITALIZATION EFFORTS <br />Councilmember Kelly reported that the Community and Economic Development Committee met <br />on this bill and recommends this bill to the Council favorably. <br />Ms. Ann Kolata, Senior Redevelopment Specialist, Community & Economic Development, 1200 <br />County -City Building, South Bend, Indiana, made the presentation for this bill. <br />Ms. Kolata noted that this bill appropriates fifty thousand dollars ($50,000.00) of grant monies from <br />the State of Indiana through the Indiana Development Finance Authority to be used for Brownfield <br />site assessments. Of this money, nine thousand dollars ($9,000.00) will be used for the Omniplex <br />lead based paints survey and forty thousand dollars ($40,000.00) will be used for the Studebaker <br />Area A shallow and deep monitoring well installation which is a portion of the Phase II site <br />investigation of Area A outlined in the strategy. <br />This being the time heretofore set for the Public Hearing on the above bill, proponents and <br />opponents were given an opportunity to be heard. <br />There being no one present wishing to speak to the Council either in favor of or in opposition to this <br />bill, Councilmember White made a motion for favorable recommendation to full Council concerning <br />this bill. Councilmember Coleman seconded the motion which carried by a voice vote of nine (9) <br />ayes. <br />BILL NO. 38 -01 PUBLIC HEARING ON A BILL OF THE COMMON <br />COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA <br />APPROPRIATING $14,685.00, HAZMAT FUND (FUND <br />#289) <br />Councilmember Aranowski reported that the Health and Public Safety Committee and the Personnel <br />& Finance Committee met on this bill and sends it to the Council with a favorable recommendation. <br />Battalion Chief James Lopez, Chief of Special Operations, South Bend Fire Department, 701 West <br />Sample Street, South Bend, Indiana, made the presentation for this bill. <br />Chief Lopez requested the appropriation of fourteen thousand six hundred eighty five dollars <br />($14,685.00) from Fund #289 to replace and purchase new equipment for the Hazmat Team for the <br />year 2001. <br />
