e) The costs for renovation and restoration of the <br />Vocational/Technical building and Boilerhouse will <br />severely affect the quality and feasibility of the <br />renovation of Central High School; <br />f) The cost of renovation for the Vocational/Technical <br />building into leasible space would create leasehold <br />costs that would not be competitive in the market <br />place. <br />STANDARDS <br />Part 1 <br />B. Treatment <br />A treatment change . . . to the landmark or its <br />environment may [not] . . significantly alter the <br />appearance of the landmark . . . [and] . . . the <br />Commission should review the proposed treatment for <br />character and style consistency . . . and [the treatment] <br />should be added in a manner that does not disrupt the <br />visual unity of the site. <br />C. Demolition <br />Historic landmarks shall not be demolished. k1hen a <br />landmark poses a. threat to the public safely, and <br />demolition is the only alternative, documentation by way <br />of photographs, measured drawings, or other descriptive <br />methods should be made of both the exterior and interior <br />of the landmark. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Part 1 <br />Staff recommends approval of items la, 1b, Id, and le <br />because the original historic_ character is either retained <br />or recreated. Since the handicapped ramp will be located at <br />an existing entry and will be below grade, stafff recommends <br />approval of item is because the ramp will not negatively <br />affect the historic character of the entrance. Additional <br />drawings should be submitted showing that the length of the <br />ramp will be accommodated within the existing space. <br />Staff recommends item if to be tabled pending receipt of <br />additional information. <br />
