St. James Court South Bend, IN 46601 Local Landmark National Register of Historic Places PROPOSAL The proposal is two -fold but related: Part 1 The architect for the School Corporation proposes a new site plan which includes: a) relocation of parking spaces on St. James Court away from the elliptical stone entry; b) repair of elliptical stone entry and return of the flagpole to its original position; c) installation of a handicapped ramp to replace south steps to lower level at original main entrance; d) restoration of 1914 landscape plan from known physical data; e) removal of chain -link fence; f) construction of new entry on west facade reusing stone portal from VoTec building. Part 2 The proposal includes the removal of VoTec Building and boilerhouse and construction of new parking lot with additional landscaping on west side of building in context with original plan; The School Corporation's reasons for the demolition of the VoTec Building and Boilerhouse include: a) The South Bend Community School Corporation does not require additional space outside the Central High School building to fulfill its program requirements; b) The SB Community School Corp. needs additional on -site parking in order to fulfill program and code requirements; c) A new entry is desired from the west or parking side of the property; d) The Vocational/Technical and Boi1erhouse Buildings have little or no aesthetic value and detract from the quality of the Central High School building;
