SECTION 9 — FIXTURES AND FINISHES <br />9-2.3 (c) TREE GRATES <br />Tree grates shall be used in all urban environments to protect the soil from compaction and to <br />prevent the root system from becoming a tripping hazard for pedestrians. Tree grates shall be used <br />for all street trees planted within the sidewalk and be ADA compliant. All tree grates shall be from <br />the NEENAH Foundry Avenue Collection. The tree grate sizes may vary pending tree species and <br />space constraints. On -Street Parking is most common in urban and <br />commercial areas and shall be perpetuated or provided as required. <br />See ct inn 2.:...:... g; s.,,,,,W� fl Sys V aths for typical sections and further details regarding On - <br />Street Parking. <br />9-2. 3 0 BICYCLE FACILITIES <br />In conjunction with the concept of "Complete Streets" and promoting increased pedestrian <br />activity, the City of South Bend is engaged in a continuous effort to promote bicycling as a form <br />of transportation. The Boutin „Bend. Bikew� illustrates existing facilities that <br />accommodate bicycle traffic. Developments within the areas outlined on the map shall coordinate <br />with City Engineering to ensure compliance for bicycle access provisions throughout the City. <br />See ect' n 2,,,,;,,,,,,;;,,, , g; s,, "Naik"/ays Paths for further details on Bicycle Facilities. <br />9-2.3 (g) BICYCLE RACKS <br />Bicycle racks shall be considered for installation in the public right-of-way primarily within the <br />Downtown and Neighborhood Center Districts. Bicycle racks shall be considered and may be <br />required at commercial establishments and destinations. Bicycle racks shall be installed in the <br />public right-of-way, in proximity to pedestrian traffic signals, a minimum 3 feet clear from back <br />of curb, 3 feet clear from other bike racks, 2 feet clear and not conflict with the pedestrian access <br />route, and a minimum of 6 feet removed from trees or tree grates where provided.
