HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION
PRESERVATION SPECIALIST REPORT
December 18, 2017
Hello Commission!
Work started without COAs/RMEs
517 S Carroll -9 new vinyl windows
529 S Carroll -3 new vinyl windows
Code Hearings:
1311 Prinz Ct., LWE-LHD repaired by owner
621-623 Rex, Chapin Park-LHD, hearing to be 12/21/2017
6 environmental reviews since last meeting.
I worked with Eric Boyd of 1240 W. Thomas St. to find wood windows from our store
room that would fit the openings on the second floor/new addition at the rear of the
structure. I believe we have found structurally sound wooden sashes that would be in-
kind in style and material.
I have received a verbal offer from the Department of Community Investment to be the
Inspector for Historic Preservation. The official written offer should follow shortly as my
drug test clears and new hire paperwork gets processed. My orientation is scheduled for
January 2, 2018.
I find that I am optimistic as we move forward into our new employment with the
Department of Community Investment. I think this is an opportunity that puts us at the
table from the very beginning with projects that involve Historic Preservation as opposed
to getting involved after plans are formed or decisions made. I am excited that I will be
able to continue to work with the talented and passionate director and deputy director that
I work with currently; as well as the wonderful commissioners that we have the privilege
of serving.
Steve Szaday
Preservation Specialist
