4/312017 XFIN rrY Connect Fw W C Kovrnover Printout
foundation for this improvement. Linda and Tim Sokol have become very good friends, and
Linda and I now work together on projects, too.
3. The barn had unfortunately been demolished (for safety reasons) a few years before I
bought the home, but the space where it was located has been finished into a "green space ",
nicely landscaped at its perimeter to be a flat area where guests have had their weddings in
the last year. The country setting of this home has been quite attractive, and there are
several weddings scheduled for this year and next. The garage wall that was adjacent to the
old barn had to be closed off since it didn't have a true exterior wall while the barn had been
there, so we did that, too.
4. That beautiful summer kitchen left me conflicted in my mind. I know the heritage of its use,
but to me it was a "cottage waiting to happen ". Keeping the exterior untouched, we converted
the interior into a quaint little cottage, leaving all of the walls, but redoing the ceiling. The
"smoke room" part was converted into a full bathroom. The back area just outside the smoke
room is where a kitchenette now exists, and the front area has a queen bed and small dining
table. We close the cottage for the winter, but it has been popular with the wedding parties,
and larger groups.
5. We relocated all exterior electric wires to underground so the home and grounds can be
visually unencumbered by wires and poles. It made a big difference, Willem!
6. My friend Ron who helps with maintenance and most of these projects is a fine craftsman.
He made an 18- person dining table in Amish style for the dining room, using exclusively barn
wood from the original barn. It is a true centerpiece to the home and fits so nicely with the
wood floors.
More projects are planned for this spring, too...
1. We will restore the roof over the old corn crib /barn soon.
2. Spring time will also be the restoration of the front door portico. It was removed prior to me
purchasing the home, and I am very excited to be meeting with my design team this weekend
to formulate our plan. I hope to front -light the home to highlight its beauty along with the
majesty of the home's existing facade! (I am attaching a photo of what I understand to be the
original portico, which will be our blueprint).
3. We will enhance the privacy of the property with a few cosmetic yet functional borders or
fences between our property and some of the near neighbors. Doing so is as much for us as
it is for them. I get nervous when I have a group at the home, and find myself hoping that no
un- neighborly disturbance occurs.
4. Much of the rest of our ongoing work will be guest- experience improvements as we
hopefully graduate from remodeling, to maintaining with hosting excellence.
Willem, I hope that these things that we are doing stand in line with the goals of celebrating
this wonderful home, and your family's history -- both here, and in the spirit of our shared
Dutch heritage. I hope that as you read this letter, that you will reflect positively on this, and
also continue to be a joyful guardian of the historical materials that you have from your family
https J /connecWnitycom /appsdtety= 7.8.2 -15. 20170302.190347 /printhtml ?print 1491204275586 315
