CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS <br />1. 618 Park Avenue COA#2015-0203 Chapin Park LHD <br />Representation by Keith Micinski <br />STAFF REPORT <br />CONCERNING APPLICATION FOR A <br />CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS <br />Date: 3 February 2015 <br />Application Number: 2015-0203 <br />Property Location: 618 Park Avenue <br />Architectural Style/Date/Architect or Builder: Prairie/1906/VV.W. Schneider <br />Property Owner: Robert White <br />Landmark or District Designation: Chapin Park LHD/NR <br />Rating: Outstanding <br />DESCRIPTION OF STRUCTURE/ SITE: This is a two storey Prairie style home set upon a rectangular brick foundation. <br />The walls are stucco with two symmetrical one storey bays on the east and west sides. The roof is a low hip with asphalt shingles <br />and wide overhand with moulded cornice. There is a three quarter width front porch with low hip roof that extends out over the <br />entrance and is supported by two free standing and two engaged square wood columns on brick piers. There a several different <br />window styles: 1/1 double hung, 6/1 double hung and casements with various muntin patterns. <br />ALTERATIONS: The asphalt roof is a replacement. The concrete porch floor is a replacement. <br />APPLICATION ITEMS: Replace existing window unit on rear of house that was damaged due to flooding from burst pipes <br />with a modern window that will maintains and replicates historical accuracy of existing. <br />DESCRIPTION OF PROPOSED PROJECT: The owner and contractor propose to replace the deteriorated double casement <br />system in the rear of the house. ( Please see Preservation Specialist Report dated 29 January 2015 and photos) They <br />propose to replace one window with a Kolbe aluminum clad wood window that will match the muntins and exterior <br />moulding of the original. (Please see product sheets) They also propose to block up the other opening to accommodate <br />a bathroom re -model and re -stucco the exterior to match the original surface. (Please refer to Keith Micinski's project <br />description). <br />STANDARDS AND GUIDELINES: <br />CHAPIN PARK STANDARDS AND GUIDELINES <br />C. WINDOWS AND DOORS <br />Window and door frames are in most cases wood and vary depending upon the style of the home. Many are double hung <br />windows with wood trim and sills. Brick structures have stone sills and brick lintels. In some cases where aluminum siding has <br />been applied, the window and door trim has been covered. About half of the structures in the district have aluminum storm <br />windows; the other half have wood storm windows. <br />Required <br />Original windows and doors shall be retained including sashes, lintels, sills, shutters, decorative glass, pediments, hoods and <br />hardware. When deteriorated beyond repair, they shall be replaced with units and trim resembling the original. <br />Recommended <br />
