Architectural Features: <br />• Brick construction <br />• Gable roof, Cross plan <br />• Bow windows with stone sills <br />• Bracketed window hoods <br />• Arched cottage windows <br />• Victorian gingerbread on porches and <br />under the roof gables <br />The John B. and Henriette Metzger House <br />14297 State Route 23 <br />Italianate — c. 1887/1889 <br />John B. Metzger and his wife Henriette purchased <br />property in Hams Township in the late 1870s and <br />early 1880s. They bought the main portion of land <br />from Robert Kennedy, Hams Township's first <br />schoolteacher. Kennedy had built a log cabin on the <br />property, which was removed when more stylish <br />and permanent residences could be built. The <br />Metzger's built this Italianate country villa in <br />1887/1889. <br />Designated a Local Landmark 1976. The legal <br />description was amended in 2001. <br />
