The site also has smoke house,
drying house, large bam, and other sheds.
Besides its function as a working farm in the 19`h
and 201h century, the house has been a meeting
place since 1853. John Follmer was a founding
member of the Harris Township board, and at his
residence decisions were made regarding the
township's schools, roads, etc. In 1875, it became
the farming community's Post Office.
Mrs. John (Margeret) Follmer was the first
postmistress (1875-1881); she kept the mail in the
front room of the home. In 1924, the Post Master
duties returned to this family and this house when
Nellie Kownover, Maraget's grandniece, became
Postmistress. The Post Office was located here
until 1952/53 when the Kownovers sold the
property to James and Germaine (Gerri) Goff.
When Gerri Goff became Township Trustee and
Assessor in 1966, the house again functioned as a
meeting place for active community leaders and
held the office of the Trustee and Assessor for eight
years. The community now enjoys it as Yesterday's
Restaurant.
Designated a Local Landmark in 1979. The legal
description was amended in 1988.
