The Near Northwest Neighborhood, Inc. (NNN) as part of a comprehensive
strategy to revitalize Lindsey Street has purchased a property at 508 Lindsey that
has most recently been utilized as a duplex. The NNN plans to rehabilitate
property back to a single family home, at which time it will be sold to an income
eligible applicant. The goal of this project is stabilize this structure, while
promoting homeownership in the neighborhood. To accomplish this goal the
NNN is requesting permission to do the following:
The existing windows have been previously replaced. The NNN would like
to remove these windows and replace them with a Kolbe and Kolbe wood
replacement window.
All existing roofing material will be removed and a new 30yr architectural
grade shingle will be applied.
The rear addition to this home (see attached site plan) will be removed
from the structure to return property back to its original floor plan. This will
also provide green space for the new homeowners.
The existing cement front porch with metal railing will be removed. The
porch will be replaced in wood, with new tongue and grove flooring, bead
board ceiling, columns and spindles similar to existing neighborhood
housing stock.
The existing replacement aluminum siding will be removed and any
necessary wood clapboard will be restored. The house will then be
painted according to Northern Indiana Historic Landmarks Foundations
recommendation for an extended life paint job.
The existing cracked sidewalk will be removed and replaced with a new
concrete sidewalk.
The existing gutters would be removed and new gutter system would be
installed to match the renovations.
Upon receipt of the C of A the contractor selection process will begin. The
rehabilitation would be anticipated to be completed by July 2006 and the property
placed on the market for sale as an owner occupied single family home.
