HEARING OF VISITORS
1. Reverend Charles; River of Life Baptist Church, Taylor's Field
Historic District; regarding proposed move of house adjacent to
church, to allow church expansion.
REVEREND CHARLES JAMERSON: We are seeking to do some renovations on the
inside of our present facility. This would also include some exterior renovations as well.
Primarily, we need to remove or relocate an historical residential home that is currently
located on the lot next to our church.
JOHN OXIAN: If you are going to propose this then I would say, after having talked
with Karen about this, that you should meet with the Landmark Committee first and then
the Landmark Committee would come forth with a recommendation for the Commission
and then you could just come in with a C. of A. and go from there.
I would also recommend to those of you who know where the church is, that you go
out and look at the house and you can see for yourself that the house sits right up next to
the church.
KAREN HAMMOND -NASH: Is there anything that the commission could do in support
of your plans. Are there any city or county organizations that you're working with that
might be influenced by letters from us in support of this project?
REVEREND CHARLES JAMERSON: We did go to the owner previously and the only
thing on the owner's mind is to sell the property. We don't really want to own the
property. We realize that it still is a very nice home, and we don't want to purchase this
home and then later have to tear it down.
We would like to suggest to the present owner that we can in some way come to some
kind of agreement to where the house could be relocated to another location. From our
understanding the present owner has tried to sell the house on a couple of occasions with
no success. One of the main reasons the owner was not able to sell the house was
because of its location next to the alley. The house is almost touching our church and
'there is no yard whatsoever.
There are several lots in our area around the corner. If we could purchase the lot and
then do whatever we could do to aid in this, we would be more than happy to do.
