JOANN SPORLEDER: In the area immediately surrounding the basketball court, where
you are planning on expanding, is there any landscaping of any kind other than grass?
MATTHEW BARRETT: There is grass and there are shrubs partially along the outer
area.
JOANN SPORLEDER: I guess the nature of the question is: would any of these
landscaping elements need to be removed in order to do the expanding?
MATTHEW BARRETT: Some further shrubbery will need to be removed.
JOANN SPORLEDER: The second question I have is a question that you may or may
not be able to answer. In some areas, and I think in South Bend, has a total paving area
per lot requirement percentage -wise. Have you checked to see whether or not the
increased paving would in fact be allowable under another ordinance having nothing to
do with preservation?
MATTHEW BARRETT: I am not aware of any ordinance that I can think of that
pertains to this.
KAREN HAMMOND -NASH: I think I can answer that for you. There is a drawing that
the applicant submitted with his application that shows this area. This drawing does
show how the existing and proposed lot, house, and garage break up. It appears from the
drawing that while the proposed enlarged basketball court will be large, it will still be less
than forty percent of the total lot area that was proposed.
MATTHEW BARRETT: Stated what he thought the total size of his property lot was.
KAREN HAMMOND -NASH: I think that the building code requires that not more than
forty percent of the lot be paved. So, I think that you would be ok on that one.
MATTHEW BARRETT: We have a double lot and the basketball court is located at the
back of the lot.
JOHN OXIAN: I have several questions. I remember when we made this area into an
historic district; because, I was on the Standards Committee when this paved area was
there. What does the neighborhood think or what does the Liaison Committee or any of
them think about you expanding this? Have you talked to any of your neighbors about
this yet?
MATTHEW BARRETT: I have not talked to any of them yet.
JOHN OXIAN: I think that should be one thing that you should do. Is the light pole that
you are planning to have installed, a new light pole?
