National Register Nominations
1. 501 W. Colfax — Remedy Building
JOANN SPORLEDER: I thought this building was going to move again?
RHONDA SAUNDERS:
JOANN SPORLEDER:
end up next? - - - --
It is.
How does this application affect where the building will
JEREMY RISEN: I am Jeremy Risen with the Historic Landmarks Foundation. We
received grants from the State Office, which stipulated that the building had to be on the
National Register. When we received the grants the State Office told us that the building
was on the National Register. They came back later and said; oops sorry the building is
not listed. In order to keep the grant we have to nominate the building where it sits now
so it will be on the July State Historic Review Board Agenda. Then we will have to
come back again to nominate it in its new location.
JOHN OXIAN: If a building is moved into a National Register District that one
building is not part of the district?
JEREMY RISEN: If it was moved into the district after it has been established then
you are correct, it is not a part of the national register district.
JOHN OXIAN: If a house moved into a local district would we have to designate
that house on its own?
THOMAS BODNAR: We define districts by demographics, i.e., borders, leaps
and bounds descriptions.
JOHN,OXIAN: In a National Register District each property is listed?
JEREMY RISEN: When a district is written each property is described to a certain
extant. So, when the properties were described for the West Washington Street District
the Remedy Building was not there so it was not described as part of the district.
JOANN SPORLEDER: Will the building be given a designation of its own?
n
