John Oxian, President
Date:
South Bend and St. Joseph County
HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION
227 WEST JEFFERSON BLVD.
.SOUTH BEND, IN 46601-1830
Application Number:
Property Location:
Property Owner: -
District Designation:
Rating:
Phone: 219-235-9798 Fax: 219-235-9578
e-mail: historic@michiana.org
A Certified Local Government
INSPECTION REPORT
July 16, 2001
1624 E. Wayne Street
South Bend, Indiana 46617
East Wayne
Rhonda Saunders, Director
The homeowner is requesting the removal of the homes present garage that is 20' by 20' and
replacing it with one measuring 24' by 30'.
The north side is the front of the garage. It is in good condition with only minor problems. The
trim board on the northwest corner is splintered at the lower two feet and appears to have been
slightly pushed to the right by one or two inches. The garage door is in good shape.
The east side is good shape with the exception of a small section of the molding directly under the
roof.
The west side has one of the glass panels missing. There is some indication of settling of about '/2
inch on the upper left corner of the door. The siding is good.
The south side, rear, has one section of siding at the first course that has been pushed out and is
broken. Four other sections of the siding at about five feet high have indications of insect
damage. The side is in need of paint.
The asphalt shingles need to be replaced.
It is my opinion that the outside of the structure is sound. The defects are minor and can be
replaced with minimum cost. If the project is approved, there is enough room for the expansion.
Respectfully submitted,
Wayne R. Doolittle
Inspector, Historic Preservation Commission
Saving The History Of South Bend & St. Joseph County By Protecting The Irreplaceable
COMMISSIONERS
Martha Choitz Richard Helmus Jerry Weiner (Treasurer)
Mary Jane Chase Catherine Hostetler (Vice -President) Gerald Ujdak (Secretary)
Richard Morrison .
