to the rear line of the house. Where the 6' fence falls off on the west
fagade the rear yard will be enclosed by a section of 4' tall chain link
fencing that will run from the rear line of the first addition to the house
to the fencing. The 4' fence will run to the front line of the house and
then convert to a 4' tall picket fence, which will enclose the front yard.
The picket fence will have a front gate with arbor designed to match
the window arches in the house and a rear gate to give entry to the
butterfly garden.
3) Remove deteriorating concrete front steps and replace with wood steps
and a handrail that will match the railings currently existing on front
and side porches.
4) Rebuild deteriorating walls of cellar entrance and replace existing
makeshift plywood cellar doors with new, possibly metal cellar doors
for security.
5) Repair fascia along roofline that was damaged previously and install
gutters along front porch roof, side porch roof, sides of house and rear
near chimney and cellar door. Install downspouts, two at front corners
of house, west and east elevations, on near side porch and one at rear
by cellar doors.
The staff will give recommendations to each item individually.
1) The owner is requesting to install a small rear yard deck off rear door. It will
be approximately two feet off the ground, made of wood, with simple railings
and stairs. The bottom will be covered by lattice and the porch will not
protrude past the line of the house. The deck is with in the guidelines and not
visible from the street, thus, the staff recommends approval. The owner has
expressed an interest in possibly putting a roof or trellis system over this deck.
The staff has asked that the owner be prepared to submit the exact dimensions
of the deck and a detailed description of such a roof at the meeting on the 16`h
2) Staff recommends replacement of the existing wire fence along the sides of
the rear yard with a 6', stockade style privacy fence. The fence will not be
intrusive and will only come up to the rear line of the first addition to the
house. The owner has dogs and privacy issues, which only a privacy fence
can help solve. The portion of 6' fencing on the east fagade that will close off
the yard will be barely visible from the street if at all and the small section on
the west fagade that is to be closed off by coated chain link fencing will not be
visible from the street and will give security without causing any dangerous
blind spots. The staff recommends approval of the rear yard privacy fence
and coated chain link fence.
2
