Bullene expressed concern that the commission should not seek <br />to predetermine engineering solutions in such cases. Mr. Talley suggested that <br />action be taken on this application and the issue of establishing policy for <br />the future be referred to committee. Mrs. Choitz moved to -approve the <br />application as presented. Mrs. Sporleder asked what the actual application <br />stated. Mr. Duvall indicated that the documentation was the drawings in <br />circulation around the table and read the text from the application. Mrs. <br />Choitz added to her motion the document 49604-108. Mr: Talley seconded the <br />motion. The motion passed -unanimously. Mr. Oxian referred the long term plan <br />for the Island walls to Standards & Maintenance Committee. <br />Mr. Keller then passed around some. progress pictures from the Courthouse Dome <br />replacement project. Mr. Oxian asked if the tiles for historical display had. <br />yet been salvaged and Mr. Keller indicated that the -tiles would not be removed <br />until his firm was satisfied that a good -master mold at a dome section had <br />been accomplished. Mr. Talley indicated interest in going up in the dome at <br />the time that disassembly will occur. Mrs. Hostetler asked how much of the <br />dome sheathing was being salvaged. Mr. Keller indicated that six of the large <br />tiles from the bottom and 12 of the smaller tiles from the top are being <br />carefully removed and saved for display by the NIHS and that other pieces will <br />no doubt be salvaged from the dumpster by individuals for souvenirs. <br />Mr. Oxian returned to the issue of concrete retaining walls, noting that when <br />• they are not continuous the transfer the erosion problems to adjacent areas. <br />Mr. Keller noted that sheet piling was being utilized at the island wall to <br />address this potential problem. Mr. Talley asked if removal of any trees was <br />being required by this project and Mr. Keller indicated that none would be <br />removed. <br />Mr. Talley asked if other members of the commission were interested in going <br />up in the dome. Mr. Keller indicated that there was a window of opportunity <br />for about two weeks after which it will become a madhouse up there. <br />B. Second Reading for Local Landmark Designation <br />1. 201 North Michigan Street - Palais Rayale <br />Mr. Oxian noted that the commission had received a letter from Anne Kolata <br />requesting that the building not be landmarked until after rehabilitation had <br />been completed. He asked that the issue be tabled for two months to allow her <br />time to consult with the Redevelopment Commission. Mr. Talley made such a <br />motion. Mr. Fine seconded this motion which passed unanimously. <br />C. National Register Nominations <br />Mr. Duvall noted that the SHPO had indicated that the following three <br />nominations had not received sufficient notification on the occasion of their <br />first Public Hearing and had therefore requested that the commission repeat <br />this process. <br />1. St. Casimir's Parish Historic District <br />2. Northern Indiana College/South Bend Chilled Plow <br />3. North Pumping Station <br />• He noted that the commission had requested further consideration of the <br />boundary description for the North Pumping Station at .the previous hearing and <br />that Glory June Greiff had submitted a.. letter which was here provided <br />discussing and justifying the boundary as described in the nomination. In <br />summary she felt that the since the building was nominated for its <br />architectural character, it was unjustified to include the reservoir which she <br />did not feel would meet this criteria and that its inclusion would call into <br />
