5. Historic Landmarks <br />Mr. Oxian reported the following status of the recommendations for <br />designation: <br />A) 501 West Colfax - this recommendation is still tabled. <br />B) Leeper Park - Leeper Park is tabled. The public Hearing for this <br />nomination is anticipated in the coming month. <br />C) Mr. Duvall reported that the Brick Streets Local Landmark Ordinance has <br />been prepared and submitted to the Common Council. <br />D) Mr. Talley reported on the preparations for the dedication of WPA House at <br />16581 Chandler Blvd. This will occur at 10:00 a.m. on October 26. <br />Mr. Oxian indicated that he would schedule a meeting of the Landmarks <br />Committee during the coming month to consider the schools issue before the <br />next meeting. <br />5. Standards & Maintenance <br />Mr. Fine announced that this committee will meet at the HLFI office on Friday <br />November 8 at 2:00 p.m. to discuss the Leeper Island wall -requirements. <br />6. Personnel <br />Mr. Duvall reported that Melody's daughter had a baby last week. <br />E. Staff Reports <br />1) Staff Approvals <br />Mr. Duvall reported no C of A Staff approvals during the period. <br />• 2) DHPA Grants <br />a) Regarding the DHPA Grant status, Mr. Duvall reported that the National <br />Register nominations have been forward to the SHPO for consideration by the <br />State Review Board on Wednesday October 23. He planned to attend this meeting. <br />The elaboration of the.conclusions for the Economic Benefits Study is still in <br />process. Mr. Oxian asked whether preliminary information was being provided to <br />anyone.�Mr. Duvall indicated that the data had been sent to Donovan Rypkema, <br />the consultant from Washington D.C. who 'had donated his consulting time and <br />met with him and Mr. Leader earlier in the year. Mr. Oxian chastised Mr. <br />Duvall for releasing this material without the approval of the commission. Mr. <br />Duvall stated that he had been clear in his earlier reports that he was <br />sharing this information with Mr. Rypkema and was not aware that this <br />presented any problem. <br />b. The Requests for Proposals have been distributed for the 1996-1997 DHPA <br />grant cycle projects. <br />c. Mr. Duvall indicated that the DHPA grant cycle applications are due at the <br />end of this month. lie is preparing that application for the following <br />activities: <br />Ro-survey of the County. <br />Leeper Park Preservation Plan <br />Publication of revised district guidelines books <br />He stated that he was open to suggestions for additional activities to be <br />included in this application. <br />Mr. Talley suggested Highland & Riverview Cemeteries. Mr. Duvall reminded the <br />commission that churches and cemeteries were specifically excluded from <br />National Register unless they met special criteria for importance. Mr. Talley <br />suggested that in this case, the planned landscape consideration may pertain. <br />Mr. Duvall acknowledged this possibility and indicated that he would explore <br />
