NEW BUSINESS (Cont.) <br />e. continued... <br />very few homes left and IVY Tech, Parkview <br />Juvenile Center, the Family and Children's <br />Center, and the relocated Dean Johnson Park <br />will dominate that sector. The goal for the <br />central sector of the Southeast sub -area will <br />be revitalization of the neighborhood. There <br />is a high percentage of rental housing which <br />is a major cause of the residential <br />deterioration. The goal for the south sector <br />will be improvement, concentrating on urban <br />design. The South Bend Community School <br />Corporation plans to build a new Riley High <br />School in this sector. <br />The goal for three sectors of the Studebaker <br />Corridor /South Gateway sub -area will be <br />redevelopment. In the fourth sector we will <br />emphasize strengthening existing businesses. <br />The goal for the Rum Village Industrial <br />District sub -area will be demucking, <br />environmental testing, capitalizing on railroad <br />access and by -pass access to encourage <br />development, and improving Olive Road and <br />land use along Olive Road. <br />The goal for the Sample- Indiana Industrial <br />District will be to improve the edges where it <br />abuts residential areas or the downtown <br />through urban design and deal with the <br />environmental contamination that is likely <br />present there. <br />The goal for the Rum Village Neighborhood <br />sub -area is to stabilize it. Although this is <br />the better of the two neighborhoods, there are <br />-14- <br />
