South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Reschedule4 Regular Meeting - April 13, 1989
6. NEW "INFSS (Cont.)
neighborhood. I am proud of where I
live. I do not want to see what
ppened in the neighborhood we are
talking about happen in my neighborhood.
I am also a small business owner and
consider myself a minority: I am a
single parent. I worked hard for the
ney that I bought my home with. I
Would be willing to locate a service
bLsiness in the West Washington area if
these Changes were made. In the present
condition, I wouldn't touch it. There
is, no money for me to be made there.
ere is no money for anyone in my type
of business to be made there. I own a
iEd ipirm salon which would service the
le who live in that neighborhood. I
employ people frown that
borhood who have the skill to
those services.
I don't understand why the opposition
keeps worrying about the relocation.
With money that they would get from
the acquisition of their property, they
wculd have the right, as any individual
d who works for a living, to reinvest
their own property. And, therefore,
, fit.
I on't know what powers the Board has,
as far as carrying this plan out. I'm
tring to understand with your
explanation. But I hope that whatever
yoLi can do to adopt this plan, you do it
quickly, because the longer it takes
to start redevelopment, the more the
blight spreads. And Crime might be
na tionwide, but in our area, it is a
trie problem. It is our neighborhood I
am concerned about. Not Chicago, and
no Detroit. And not what happens in
Ka diington, D.C. Thank you very much.
x Owsley: I want to say one thing. FELIX OWSLEY
West Washington Revitalization
-47-
