We feel that if we are totally evicted from oi r conmiercial district, then surely ere is discrimination. We have sought to work with WWCRP as business people, bt t we have found them to be very closed their attitude. Our opinion and ic eas have met a lead door when it comes to working things out with WWCRP. We nc to that positive remarks have been given to non profit groups who strive f r c oumunity revitalization projects, bt t, as always, there are some bad s with the .good. In our case the bc-d is that long standing minority businesses are being forcefully moved We ask, "Where's the benefit to e overall conmmnity when the instream of the neighborhood is eliminated. 11 The only benefit we can see by our eviction is that one day we will drive through West Washington Street and see its beauty, but we won't any property or be there. We state to Redevelopment that, surely, the ccam-mity is not entirely, nor near tirely, behind the WWCRP proposal. We have over 600 signatures against the demolition of West Washington. At one particular Redevelopment meeting I attended, I informed the Commission that e casunity was not behind WWCRP's pioject. The Comission stated that tl7ey would send the WWCRP proposal back to their lap if the c cmnunity is not behind this project. Well, Ccmissioners, we state by proof of our petitions that there is not consent for demolition of Newbill's Barber Shop, R zell's Ribs, Owsley's Liquor Store, S & J Lounge, nor Newbill's Construction Ccmpany. So we ask you, Redevelopment, tc not accept WWCRP's plan. We c�wlude, that we are not being towards the change. We are -35-
