South Bendel Redevelopment Commission
Rescheduleq Regular Meeting - April 13, 1989
RE
b. Cc}ntinued...
ding from ... I hope it's not coming
mt the Commissioners ... you take office
ce, land down on LaSalle Avenue, and
housing up. Now if the city wants
put housing up so everybody can live
e and commute to their j obs in
hawaka, Elkhart, Niles, Benton
bor, St. Joe, Bucharman, Plymouth,
n fine. Keep putting your housing
On the industrial side, I notice that is
only phase two or phase three. It is
too bad that the industrial isn't pushed
first ' and also the park needs to be, in
my opinion, downsized so that smaller
inesses can be attracted. Acre and a
f sites to two acre sites does not
at ct as many potential owners as half
a sites or acre sites. With all the
inesses around there, that area can
be a viable total comiexcial district,
up into Elm Street. With the Hansel
Ce,iter in there. In the future,
someday, renovation, probably another
twenty years of the Natatorium. The
C13.rk Funeral Home. Those are all
corpatible to a commercial district.
No a housing district. I would ask the
Comuission to send this back to the
and have them work with us on
Alternate I of the Plan and forget
Al ernate II on housing. It sounds like
it Is a sweet deal for all the investors
an I the people who are putting the
'partnerships together. And, while
th 's no federal money involved, the
estors will get a tax credit off
th it federal tax return. Thanks.
Mwdne Ellison: Mr. Nintz, I may be out MAXINE ELLISON
of order, but I cannot sit here and not
sa3, anything.
Mr Nimtz: I'll have time for
re4uttal. OK? Any further opposition
to the plan.
-33-
F. JAY NIMTZ
