South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Rescheduled Regular Meeting -March 10, 2006
6. NEW BUSINESS (CONT.)
B. South Bend Central Development Area
() continued...
running around. The tipping point has been
reached for oil in our country and the model
that we currently live in cannot be sustained.
We can either be leaders, or we can continue
to build dinosaurs that will be obsolete. I
think there are some real human issues here;
for example, on that site Holladay is
proposing an office building. I think that's
wonderful. Great tax base. We're proposing
an environment where twenty-five people
will live there 24/7. We'll work there, take
care of it, we don't go home from it. It
becomes part of the city. It's a completely
different vision. Both projects are
outstanding on their merit, and I know you
have a tough decision. We've done our best
to provide all of you with answers to the best
of our ability. We appreciate that
opportunity. Obviously, we believe
passionately in what we are trying to do.
Mr. King: We want to thank you for coming
in today and taking the time to respond to
these questions and, hopefully, explain you
project, along with the effort you already had
invested preparing the proposal.
Mr. Keen: We'd also like to publicly thank
the staff, Sharon, Jennifer and Don, for their
work with us. We would also like to
commend the Commission for making this a
public discussion. To our knowledge, from
what we've understood, this is perhaps one of
the first times the Commission has put these
bids out and held these public hearings. We
know that takes a lot of time on your part.
50
