South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Rescheduled Regular Meeting -March 10, 2006
6. NEW BUSINESS (CONT.)
B. South Bend Central Development Area
() continued...
continued vision down that side of the
street. That's absolutely correct. The cell
tower, Karl knows the value of it as I do
because it's been a challenge for a lot of
us to get our hands around. We're
certainly willing to work around that, so
it's not a deal breaker from that
standpoint. If there's anything we could
do together to make that a more successful
outcome, that would be much appreciated.
Land is certainly a deal breaker. The East
Bank Walkway, as I've just tried to
describe in architectural terms, is a deal
breaker simply from the standpoint that
it's floating out in the middle of the river
and it's not in good structural repair. It's
not something I think the city should be
OK with, and, certainly, it doesn't
compliment what we're trying to do with
our investment here. I don't think there's
anything else on this list, other than our
vision of an arts district. We can't
mandate that anybody stays, but I guess
that's part of number one, supporting our
vision of Sycamore Street. Those are
really the items that have impact on our
project.
Mr. King: So, the first five items are the
"must haves." Master plan for Sycamore
Street, assist in property acquisition,
assistance in relocation of cell tower, land
a one dollar, and rebuild East Bank
walkway. Those items are a must.
Mr. Bergeman: Yes. But what I want to
clarify is that items one, two, and three,
40
