South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting—June 28, 2011
6. NEW BUSINESS (CONT.)
C. Airport Economic Development Area
(4) continued...
investment and to allow future access to the
sewer corridor, and also as a means to
provide a safe walking path from Moreau
Court to the entrance of the Blackthorn Golf
Course, this is a very opportune time to
construct an 8' wide multi-use path on the
south side of Nimtz Parkway. Abonmarche,
the designers of the sewer project, have most
of the site information necessary for the
project design and will engineer a trail
through this Phase 1 corridor. Construction
of the walk could be done this fall as part of
the restoration work of the construction path.
The professional service proposal is in the
amount of$38,800 and a detailed
engineering estimate will be created as part
of the project design. Staff requests approval
of Resolution No. 2910.
The project limits for this project are from
Mayflower Road to Moreau Court and all the
way to the entrance to Blackthorn Golf
Course. A Phase II walkway would go west
to Olive Road. Last week, we found out that
the state was going to be doing bridge work
on a Nimtz Parkway Bridge. The city will
incorporate the pedestrian walkway with
construction of the new.
Mr. Downes asked if this proposal had the
support of Blackthorn owners. Mr. Schalliol
responded that we've had conversations with
some of the owners. The ones we've talked
to are supportive of this. We're going to get
the final design drawn up and present it to the
others.
30
