South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting— December 19, 2003
6. NEW BUSINESS
A. Public Hearings
(3) continued...
Two (2) years ago, the South Bend Heritage
Corporation was employed to be the NNRO
management agent. Remarkable progress
has occurred during that period of time.
There are seven (7) people serving on the
NNRO Board of Directors representing the
not - for - profits, together with seven (7)
people from the neighborhood itself. This
has truly been a cooperative project between
the neighbors, the institutions and the City
of South Bend.
Mr. Roberts thanked Ms. Jennifer Hughes
for the outstanding work done on behalf of
the northeast neighborhood and also thanked
Mayor Luecke and the City for continued
support. The NNRO unanimously concurs
with the Northeast Neighborhood Council
and supports the confirmation of the
proposed Development Plan and urged the
Commission for approval of Resolution
No. 2021.
Mr. Wayne Curry, Jr., Northeast
Neighborhood Council member, commented
that a lot of work and effort has been put
forth to ensure diverse housing in the area,
including low, median and high -end
housing, making relocation to the area
possible regardless of affordability. The
structure of the Plan is well thought out and
residents that may be affected by future
property acquisitions have been dealt with
fairly and are favorable to possible
relocation.
34
