Airport Economic Development Area <br />(1) continued... <br />available in South Bend, they would have to <br />either close operations or move outside the <br />area. <br />Mr. King asked if Mr. Schalliol believed <br />August 31, 2005 was enough time for <br />Advantage Puck to find a suitable location in <br />South Bend. Mr. Schalliol responded that <br />there are vacant buildings in the Airport area <br />which should be suitable, given time to <br />negotiate a deal. <br />Mr. Hunt asked for assurance that the <br />donation Advantage Puck would make would <br />be dedicated to demolition costs of <br />1743 Commerce Drive when demolition is <br />desired. Mr. Schalliol assured Mr. Hunt that <br />the funds would be set aside for that purpose. <br />Ms. Greene noted that this type of temporary <br />use of property is not expressly authorized in <br />the redevelopment statute. However, under <br />I.C. 36.7.14 -11, subsection 3, the <br />Commission has the duty to "promote the use <br />of land in the manner that best serves the <br />interests of the unit and its inhabitants ". On <br />this basis, it is legal counsel's opinion that <br />the Commission could permit Advantage <br />Puck the temporary use of the Commission's <br />property in order to permit this entity to <br />continue business operations, continue <br />employment, and retain an existing business <br />within the City. Such an arrangement would <br />also permit the Commission to avoid <br />incurring any holding costs that would <br />ILotherwise occur with this property during the <br />23 <br />
