South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting -July 20, 2007
6. NEW BUSINESS (CONT.)
A. Public Hearings
continue ...
would have to agree with Ken on some of the
money and how it's being spread out. The
city just recently put in handicapped access
ways and all the curbs down Miami St. What
I found interesting about it is they spent a ton
of money doing that, but ten feet away from
these access points the sidewalks are so
deteriorated you can't even take a wheelchair
down it.
We're in the process of redeveloping our
own property there at 1512 Miami and I just
wanted to know how that facade would affect
our business, because I've heard through the
grapevine that part of this project is to try to
eliminate some of the businesses that deal
with automotive care.
Mr. Leone: This resolution ties into the
previous resolution, creating a mechanism to
allow programs to operate along Miami St. I
don't know that there's necessarily a design
to go one way or the other. I think that in
part depends on the corridor committee and
the way... There's supposed to be a lot of
public input into what happens along Miami
Street. I don't know if you've had a chance
to participate along with the other folks there.
I think there was an issue before the
Common Council a couple weeks or a month
ago, that had to do with an additional
business opening up along Miami St. that
was automotive related. It didn't get
licensing. I don't know that there's any kind
of a comprehensive plan one way or the
other.
26
