South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting -July 20, 2007
6. NEW BUSINESS (CONT.)
A. Public Hearings
continue ...
that these grants are available? Is that what
these programs are doing?
Mr. Inks: Historically, the facade matching
grant program has been offered on the
commercial corridors and it is a 50/50 match
program where half the money is provided by
the city, half by the business. So it's
voluntary in nature, people are applying for
those funds. This just provides the
framework for the Commission to approve
that type of program in areas under its
jurisdiction. The funding will, as it has in the
past, come from other city resources.
Mr. Peczkowski: What is it that the programs
are doing that isn't already out there in the
sector? By and large, anybody who is going
to be doing a facade improvement knows
about this. What is it that the program is
doing? These programs that we're seeking to
create?
Mr. Inks: We're not seeking to create a
program. This would be the continuation of
an existing program.
Mr. Peczkowski: OK. Because the language
here is "this amendment allows for the
creation of programs."
Mr. Schalliol: In the South Side
Development Area, specifically South
Gateway, this program doesn't currently
eXlst.
22
