South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting -July 20, 2007
6. NEW BUSINESS (CONT.)
A. Public Hearings
continue ...
10:00 a.m., July 20, 2007, there were no
written remonstrances received related to
ResolutionNo.2353.
Mr. Schalliol noted that Resolution No. 2353
relates to section 4.B.(10) of the development
plan. That section of the development plan is
related to project area activities and
processes for improvement of the
development area.
The proposed amendment allows for creation
of programs for voluntary repair and
rehabilitation of buildings and improvements
within the South Side Development Area.
Mr. Leone explained the need for this change
to the development plan. As part of our
comprehensive look at all of the city's
programs for repair and rehabilitation,
corridor programs, etc., we wanted to try to
find the most efficient and effective way of
accomplishing the programs that have been
going on for years. We're trying to find
better ways to do them, ways that are well
supported by the statutes and the most
appropriate mechanisms. As part of that
analysis we determined that there are more
effective ways, by using the Redevelopment
Commission, for some of these processes on
certain corridors and certain neighborhoods,
to use the Board of Works for others and
then, with the assistance of the Common
Council and more specific types of
allocations, to go ahead and try to rework the
way in which these plans are put together.
20
