South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting -July 20, 2007
6. NEW BUSINESS (CONT.)
A. Public Hearings
() continued...
Phil Byrd: South Bend Heritage Foundation.
As some of you know, it took about three
years through the state legislature to get
legislation that would enable us to use
residential properties in the form of tax
incremental financing. Although this
housing program covers an area greater than
the Triangle, it is extremely important to the
Triangle because we're looking to do a
significant number of infrastructure
improvements there. This will provide some
of the funding for those improvements.
Linda Wolfson: Community Forum on
Economic Development. On Monday of this
past week we testified in favor of the Eddy
Street Commons project, primarily because it
might provide the resources for the
revitalization of the northeast area. So, of
course, we would support this resolution as
well.
Council Member Timothy Rouse: This has
been a great opportunity. I was with Phil
Byrd as we got the residential TIF approved.
It was a lot of work and we appreciate all of
you who participated in that. This is where
the rubber hits the road. If it doesn't get
approved here, that hard work is really in
vain. I do support it. Thank you.
Jean Hanrahan. Northeast Neighborhood
Council. I moved onto the northeast side in
March 2006, into an NNRO rehabbed home.
In the sixteen months that I have lived on that
block it has already revitalized. I am very
16
